"WHAT IS INSTRUCTIONAL SOCCER?"
The Barnstable Youth Soccer Association's Instructional Soccer program is a fun, entry-level soccer experience open to Barnstable residents ages 6-12, (click below for the 2017/2018 Grade and Age Grouping Matrix). Simply put, the goal of our in-town recreational program is to foster self-confidence and to learn the game of soccer while having fun and making new friends.
The BYSA Instructional program is made up of a Fall and Spring season. The Fall season starts in September and finishes in November, with the Spring season starting in April and finishing in June. Each season is eight weeks long, with all the games being played on Saturday mornings at Cape Cod Community College. Unlike Travel soccer, there are no makeup games for those that are cancelled due to weather or adverse field conditions. BYSA Instructional coaches are not required to run a weekly team practice, but are encouraged to do so for team building and skill development. The day and time of team practices are set by each individual Instructional coach, based on the availability of the coach and of the players. One thing very unique to BYSA's Instructional program in our professional instruction and training.
Each year, the Barnstable Youth Soccer Association partners with renowned youth soccer organizations that provide professional, world-class instruction to our kids. This year, we're proud to be partnered with Challenger Sports! As part of this partnership, Challenger will be bringing professional instructors from both England and Brazil here to Cape Cod! Each week, all Instructional players will have the opportunity to train with and learn from these professional trainers, right alongside their coaches. Traditionally, these instructional training sessions are held prior to the games on Saturday morning. However, they may be held during the week depending on the availability of the training staff.
